Sorrento and surrounding bayside towns can be accessed by following the coastline from Melbourne via Frankston or, for a faster journey, by taking the M1, through to the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and then Moorooduc Freeway. Sorrento is serviced by bus routes 787 Sorrento – Safety Beach and 788 Frankston – Portsea. For a scenic option, a car and passenger ferry crosses between Sorrento and Queenscliff hourly every day.

Sorrento is also home to remnants of the old steam tram which operated between 1890 and 1920, transferring up to 20,000 passengers during peak season between Sorrento Pier and the Back beach!
