South Yarra boasts some of Melbourne’s most significant and historically-rich properties. Originally established during the 1840s, the area has fine examples of various Victorian and Edwardian styles, Art Deco and pre and post-war homes. Apartment construction began in earnest during the 1930s and to this day the area offers some of Melbourne’s most coveted Art Deco apartments in and around the Yarra River.
There are 4 train lines that stop at South Yarra Station: Pakenham, Cranbourne, Frankston and Sandringham. A second station in Hawkesburn Villages receives the Pakenham, Cranbourne and Frankston lines. The tram routes 58, 72 and 78 also service South Yarra. If public transport isn’t your thing, you can walk, cycle or skate along the many paths into the city.

There is no shortage of prestigious schools and educational institutions in the South Yarra area, with the Melbourne Girls Grammar School, Melbourne Grammar, Christchurch Grammar, Melbourne High School and South Yarra Primary all in the vicinity.
Domain Road is popular on weekends for coffee, often attracting the weekend runners or cyclists, while Toorak Road and various side streets also cater to the caffeine crowd. We also couldn’t forget Chapel Street – which some may argue, is the place to be seen. Put on your activewear or bring your pooch along for the best breakfast and brew in the city.
